Preserving and researching the history of German immigration to Canada

The German-Canadian Studies (GCS) at the University of Winnipeg is working on a project dedicated to preserving and researching the history of German immigration to Canada.

They are seeking donations of private materials such as letters, diaries, photographs, movies and personal documents that capture the experience of German immigrants in Canada over the years.  They collect only private materials because the research focuses on the history of a group’s immigration and settlement from their own perspective.

GCS would like to protect unique historical records, so they are never discarded, lost, or forgotten. If families with German background are uncertain about how to care for their family documents, you are invited to contact them to find a meaningful way to safeguard the heritage.
