Connecting Cultures One Dish at a Time:
Culture in the Kitchen – A Multicultural Cooking Series

Culture in the Kitchen is a series of multicultural cooking classes hosted by the Saskatchewan German Council who invites other cultural groups to share recipes, stories, and their customs. Using food as a common bond connects people and promotes the appreciation and better understanding of Saskatchewan’s multicultural society.

Your cultural sponsorship helps to engage participants in meaningful cultural activities, share our German culture, develop better cross-cultural understanding, and build a stronger community through food as common ground.

Impact:
Since 2016, the SGC cooked with China, Vietnam, Brazil, Nigeria, India, Indigenous SK, Ukraine, India, Romania, Ecuador, Youth & more, bringing people together for a culinary adventure. In 2022, a cookbook was published as a collection of all recipes from previous cooking classes, including introduction paragraphs for each featured culture.

Discover the Magic of Christmas:
SGC’s interactive Online Advent Calendar

Help people to celebrate the German “Advent calendar” tradition from the comfort of their home.

Starting on December 1 every year, people will have the opportunity to discover 24 amazing stories about different themes, all connected to the German Canadian culture.

Help people to discover new perspectives of German culture and engage participants in interactive games and quizzes for kids and adults to make their Christmas experience even more fun while celebrating culture and heritage.

Impact:
Since 2015, the SGC has brought the magic of Christmas to people through the online Advent Calendar. In 2023, the online Advent Calendar was viewed 1,700 times, with nearly 600 quiz entries and 10 prize winners.
