Festivals & Major Events

SGC attends events like Saskatoon Folkfest, Prairie Prism, Heritage Festival of Saskatoon, as well as Multicultural Days at schools to share our traditions and contribute to the multicultural celebrations of diversity.

Outreach

During the year, SGC participates in outreach initiatives such as Saskatoon Folkfest, Prairie Prism, Heritage Festival of Saskatoon, as well as Multicultural Days at schools. We showcase informational banners, displays, language games, mini language lessons, crafts and more. Being represented at these events allows us to share our German culture and traditions and connect to the community. The vibe, food, and entertainment add an international flair and let us celebrate the cultural diversity of Canada.

Stop at our booth for a chat, try out your German language skills, or take home a craft kit – we look forward to meeting you.

German Heritage Month

In December 2016, the Canadian Parliament officially declared October “German Heritage Month”  in order to “recognize the contributions that German-Canadians have made to Canadian society, the richness of the German language and culture, and the importance of educating and reflecting upon German heritage for future generations, and that the Waterloo Region is host to the largest Oktoberfest outside of Germany, by declaring October, every year, German Heritage Month, and the nine days commencing the Friday before Thanksgiving, every year, Oktoberfest”.

The SGC & affiliated groups host a variety of events throughout Saskatchewan to celebrate October – German Heritage Month. Keep an eye on our events calendar to find celebrations in your community.
