When the sweet smell of freshly baked Christmas cookies wafts through the house, the best time of the year has arrived. Enjoy this recipe!
250 g (1 ½ cups) flour
125 g (½ cup) butter
160 g (¾ cup) sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla sugar
pinch of salt
Combine all ingredients into smooth dough. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and place in fridge for about 1 hour.
Roll dough out, making sure it is not too thin, otherwise cookies will burn.
Using selection of differently shaped cookie cutters, cut out cookies, then place them on cookie sheet lined with baking paper and bake at 180°C (350°F) for about 8 to 10 minutes.
When time has elapsed and cookies are done, remove from oven, then let them cool before decorating. Once cooled, mix icing sugar, water, and tinted food colouring. Water can be substituted with lemon juice.
Decorate cookies with icing, and optionally, use sprinkles for additional colour.
