Edenwold, St. John’s Lutheran Church

St. John’s Lutheran Church

Located southwest of Edenwold, St. John’s Lutheran Church stands on a hilltop alongside its historic cemetery. The site has served the community since 1891 and is recognized as the first German Lutheran church west of Winnipeg.

The current red‑brick church, built in 1919 to replace an earlier structure, reflects the pride of its early congregants with its central tower, tapered spire, rounded windows and doors, and simple rural Gothic design. The adjacent cemetery, in use since the community’s earliest years, links the site to generations of local pioneers.
